Arrow of My Heart

On February 14th, 2011 a white ball of fluff scrambled out of my matchbox-sized car “Twinkie” as I opened the door. After frantically scratching her way out of the large cardboard box from the owner, Andrew, she bolted out into the vast expanse of mielie fields. After a few shouts and phone calls, a search party comprised of adults and children assembled. Armed with torches and weakly lit cell phone screens we scoured the fields, hoping the familiar sound of Andrew’s car engine would lure her out from hiding. After hours of searching in the twilight we spotted a pair of glowing eyes, tucked under a large tree root, obstructed by bits of brush. Continue reading “Arrow of My Heart”
